Julian Kaufman, Owner of Forte Fitness

Julian Kaufman earned his B.A. degree in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University. He went on to earn a master's degree from Covenant College in Curriculum and Instruction. Julian is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). The NSCA (www.nsca.com) is the world's leading authority on strength, conditioning, and fitness. The NSCA distinguishes itself from the hundreds of other certifying organizations because its foundation is rooted in scientifically reliable research. The NSCA bridges the gap between the lab scientist and the fitness practitioner. Julian also holds certification from USA Track and Field.

Julian has worked in several diverse health-related fields in Chattanooga since 1993. His technical experience includes working alongside exercise scientists in human performance (vital capacity, stress test, heart rate, blood pressure, body composition, flexibility), exercise physiology (max VO2, O2 deficit, hydrostatic weighing, anaerobic threshold), biomechanics and motor development. Currently Julian serves as a strength and conditioning coach, wellness teacher, fitness instructor, football coach and track coach at the Baylor School.

Julian's personal philosophy is centered on the idea that health is holistic in its nature. Spiritual, intellectual, emotional, relational and physical health should be viewed in an integrated manner. As an individual deals with the physical aspects of their health, they should also be careful to care for the other, more complex components of their overall health. As the physical is worked on and developed, it must focus on substance versus image. This substance is whole health with the goal of preventing disease, increasing potential for longevity, and improving and maintaining quality of life.

Andy Wells, Trainer/Manager

Andy graduated from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga in 2012 with a B.S. in Business Marketing. He also holds certifications with the American College of Sports Medicine as a Certified Personal Trainer as well as the American Heart Association for First Aid, CPR, and AED.

Andy takes great pride in his client’s achievements and it brings him great joy to see them not only reaching but exceeding goals they never thought possible. He believes the ultimate measure of a great personal trainer is the ability to educate others with the proper knowledge and tools necessary to be successful.

As a trainer for the past 5 years, Andy has had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients from all walks of life. By doing so, he has accumulated the knowledge and experience required to train those individuals with different physical limitations.

Andy and his wife, Lisamarie, recently welcomed their little girl Hadley into the world in October of 2018. In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering at church, being outside and spending time with family.

Melinda Phillips, Trainer

Melinda and her husband retired to Jasper Highlands from Florida with their 2 bulldogs in August of 2018. They have 2 grown sons and 4 grandchildren and they love to spoil them every chance they get.

Melinda has a BS degree in Dental Hygiene but has always had a passion for staying healthy and fit. She started teaching Jazzercise in her 20’s and eventually received numerous certifications in multiple fitness genres. To this day, she is still enrolled in fitness courses for continuing education. She believes you are never too old to learn and improve. She has Spin, Pilates and PT certifications, and has an extensive background with all fitness levels and ages.

In addition, she is a certified PTR tennis pro. Tennis is her first passion but she feels like she was destined to work in the Health and Wellness field. It has been a very rewarding career. She prides herself on making exercise fun for all, yet challenging for all levels of fitness. She likes to educate her clients by focusing on proper form, posture and balance. Her motto is “show people what you love to do, and they will learn to love it too”.

Kelli Hays, Massage Therapist/Trainer

Kelli Hays has been a Personal Trainer for over 13 years and graduated from Bryan College in Dayton, TN with a degree in Exercise Science. During her time at Bryan, Kelli was a student athlete, playing on the Women’s Varsity Soccer Team.

Kelli began her career as a Personal Trainer at the local YMCA in Chattanooga, TN and she specializes in functional fitness for the aging adult population. In fact, many of her clients are either recovering from or preparing to undergo surgery for joint replacements. She believes that strengthening and stretching the muscles around the injury can help clients recover quicker and get back to normal life.

Kelli has been a massage therapist for over a decade and has worked in multiple spas and chiropractic offices, where she has gained valuable experience to better serve her clients.During her time at the chiropractic office, Kelli became a chiropractic assistant, helping to prepare patients for adjustments and demonstrating therapeutic recovery exercises.

Currently, Kelli is enrolled at Roane State in Oak Ridge, TN to become a certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Her hobbies include rock climbing, training, crafting and traveling.

Wayne Resotka, Trainer

Wayne attended Rutgers University where he received a certification as a Public Works Manager and Licensed Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. After receiving his degree, Wayne worked as an operator and superintendent for 32 years, until he started his own Health and Safety consulting business, PWR Services. Wayne has worked for himself form the past 10 years performing numerous OSHA required safety training programs.

For the past 30 years, Wayne has been practicing holistic health practices such as Yoga, Tai Chi and Meditation and has been teaching Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Breathwalk for the past 8 years at his local YMCA in Randolph N.J. In addition to his degree in Business Administration, Wayne holds an Associates Degree in Exercise Science and is a Certified Adult Fitness Instructor as well as Certified Practice Leader for Tai Chi Easy.

Wayne recently made the move to Jasper Highlands in the Winter of 2019. He thoroughly enjoys training his clients, meeting new people, and discussing different holistic health, mind and body techniques.

CJ Berg, Trainer

CJ discovered yoga while in college. The transformative power of the practice was palpable in his body and mind, on and off the mat. In 2016, CJ earned his 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher certificate at a studio local to his hometown. Since then, he has been practicing and is finally ready to start sharing his practice with this community!

CJ enjoys yoga because it is a personal journey of physical and mental exploration and growth for each practitioner. He is excited to help guide others through the process.

CJ moved to the area from Wisconsin in October 2019. He was in search of warmer winters and more rock climbing opportunities. His expectations were exceeded in both facets. Climbing and yoga are his main passions; he also enjoys anything outside in nature as well as reading and doodling.

"Always do your best". CJ likes this motto because it isn't about success or failure and it doesn't compare you to anyone except you. He thinks that yoga is a good model of this because there is no winning or losing. Throughout a practice you can find yourself in many awkward or uncomfortable positions. If you do your best, you will see that you can make it through the tough times, shine during the easy times, and maybe even learn something in the transition.
